The Finer Points Of Driving

* In the rain, when it's dark - drive more quickly than usual.
* If you see an accident on the motorway - slow down so everyone behind you is late for work.
* I have placed the "Please Cut Me Up" sign on my car - feel free!
* I love the smell of 2 stroke oil - please come to the front of the que and wait right by my headlight mr scooter driver.

Ah - thats better.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Happy Birthday to my Dad (it was yesterday, but I was too tied up in celebrations to blog).

Make Some Noise

Yesterday I had my second drum lesson. “Nice And Positive” as my instructor keeps saying to me – in other words, HIT THEM HARDER! I need to make more noise! *GRRRR* OK, I'll try.

This is my first blog via my linux box! I re-installed SuSE Linux, after trying Smothwall without too much success. I have settled on the idea of creating an Internet gateway / firewall box, which is why I tried smothwall (www.smoothwall.org). Any pointers or suggestions on how to accomplish this would be welcome. Thanks to those who commented on my last blog.

Penguins In Suits

Before Christmas I purchased a very reasonably priced, fairly low spec, second hand PC, which brings my collective total of PC’s to two. Although the wife thinks we only just have room for one in the house, I have plans a foot for at least two more; after all there is always room for more PC’s. Now I need a switch – or even better I could set up a wireless network… see the possibilities are endless.

Purchased without an operating system, my new computer is undergoing a series of experiments with Linux. Here are my results so far:
During the holidays I downloaded “Suse Linux” (just 1 CD) and installed it. It looked great, but for some reason the sound card did not work and every time the monitor went to power save mode, the screen changed to a stripy black and white. I played for a few days to see what it had to offer, and was fairly happy in the end.
Yesterday I downloaded “Fedora Linux” (4 CD’s) and tried to install that without much success. I didn’t play around to much to find out why – It could have been a fairly simple tweak to get it going.
Today I downloaded “Mandrake Linux”. After installation I found that it had forgotten the password I typed in (foolish thing!) and as a result denied me access to the desktop. I’ll have to try again tomorrow with that one.Still to come – “Debian Linux” Bet you can’t wait.
